Golden Week this year, Minako and I decided to go over to Ie Island to see the blossoming white lily there. I invited other friends to come along and we camped overnight as all guesthouses and hotels are fully-booked.
Ie Island is on the north part of Okinawa main island. We have to cross over there by ferry. The two days that we were there, the weather was so beautiful.
We went through a hugh field of white lily and a garden full of different variaties of hibiscus. For the first time in my life I saw purple hibiscus as big as a human face.
Anyway, I will put up those fotos later.

Every year, The Haiku Association of Okinawa holds its year-end gathering. Normally, this year-end party is called the Bou-Nen-Kai or literally translated as Forget-the-Year Party.
Fortunately, I am able to attend this year's gathering.
Members come all over Japan as far north as Niigata. I heard the news on TV today that Niigata is having it first snow of the year and its pretty heavy today.
The programme for today is making 2 haiku and analysing it and the best 3 haiku writers won some kind of a gift-voucher.
For dinner, they proceed to the next building down the road, The Hotel Sunrise Chinen. This is also where they sleep for the night. After dinner, it's karaoke night and some members show some of their performing skills and sketches.
I had to miss the dinner because the menu is unfavourable for me.
Spending 3 hours looking at Japanese scribbling chinese characters really put a strain on my eyes and bogged my brains raw!

4 new intakes came to Ryukyu Univ. for year 2006. They are the only girl Dayana (kelantan), Amir (kelantan), Shakri (kelantan) and Khai (pahang).
The 3 boys stay in a rented apartment sharing and the girl has a room in the univ. hostel.
To make the newbees feel welcome, the senior boys (elliyas and abu-2004)(ajies, amir, amizan-in malaysia-2005), organized an overnight b-b-q cum camping on Ikei Island.
I was invited being the senior cook but my children have their own busy schedules and could not make it with us.
Another senior cook Mila with two of her boys came along as well.

The Yamazato Family invited me to join them overnight at a seaside beach-house near Onna which is located at the center of Okinawa mainland.
I went with them in the morning and in the afternood, the JICA participants Shariman (SPA), Faizal (SPA) and Adi (Kaji cuaca division) came with the Azad family.
The weather was rather chilly at 16c and a bit drizzly but we managed to light up the barbeque fire at the front yard of the chalet.
The chalet was on a higher ground and we could hear the pine trees whistling, as the night get deeper, we ran in the house to get warm after the wonderful grilled food.
Somebody brought a DVD movie and we all end up lazing around the tatami floor watching I-Robot. We ended up by midnight.
The next morning, after breakfast, I took a walk around the neighbourhood with Mr. Yamazato and the children. We went to the beach and I busied myself taking shot for this album while the children built sand-castle and played on the beach.
We had lunch, tidied up, talked a little while with the chalet owner and made our way to the children playpark nearby.
